Privacy notice
This notice explains what happens to personal data you submit through this website.
Controller
Cathay Partners Limited, a company incorporated in Hong Kong, which operates this website. Contact: office@cathay.partners.
Because the controller is established outside the European Union, the GDPR applies to it for enquiries from people in the EU under Article 3(2) GDPR. Your data may be processed in Hong Kong and, where a matter needs it, in Hungary or mainland China; see Who sees it below.
Legal basis
We process your enquiry to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to perform that contract once agreed (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Where we do not yet have a specific request from you, for example to keep a record of contact or to prevent misuse of the form, we rely on our legitimate interest in running this website and responding to enquiries (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you ask to receive a newsletter or a gated download, that is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
What we collect
Only what you type into a form: your name, email address, and any company name, phone number and message you choose to give us. A small number of forms, such as the debt-recovery enquiry, also ask for the name of the other party and the approximate amount at stake; we use this only to assess the matter you describe. We do not ask for anything else, and there are no third-party advertising or tracking cookies on this site.
Who sees it
The people at Cathay Partners who need the information to answer you and, where necessary, the professionals proposed to handle the matter, together with our website hosting provider and the system we use to route enquiries to the right team. Where a matter involves our Shanghai office or a partner firm outside the European Economic Area, we share only what is needed to handle it. We do not sell or share personal data with advertisers.
Analytics
Where analytics is active on this site, it is privacy-focused and cookieless: it counts page views without building an individual profile, and runs on our own domain rather than a third party's.
How long we keep it
An enquiry that does not lead to an engagement is kept only for as long as needed to answer it and to keep a record that you contacted us, and is then deleted. If an enquiry becomes an engagement, related records are kept for the period Hungarian accounting and tax law requires, currently up to eight years under Section 169 of the Accounting Act (2000. évi C. törvény).
Your rights
You can ask what data is held about you, request correction, erasure or a copy of it, and restrict or object to processing. To exercise any of these, write to the contact address on this site and we will respond. You can also complain to the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH), 1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 9-11, https://naih.hu, or to the supervisory authority in your own country, and you can bring a claim before a court.
